Engineering Support

Engineering Support:

FMI technical staff can provide a variety of services to support your product development and launch efforts.  These include: Prototype iteration, design for manufacturability, material selection, cost reduction initiatives and project management in support of product launches.

Solid Modeling:

FMI incorporates the SolidWorks 2005 for 3D solid model design. SolidWorks is one of the world’s leading solid modeling packages that utilizes the Parasolid kernel.

Multi-Axis Capabilities

FMI has the knowledge and experience to program a variety of complex CNC machines such as 4 & 5-axis milling machines, multi-axis lathes, (Swiss-style) lathe/mill combination machines, and multi-axis Wire EDM & EDM sinkers.

Solids Toolpath Simulation

FMI is able to verify all CNC programs in a “virtual” environment by simulating the toolpaths created by SURFCAM CAD/CAM systems BEFORE post processing the toolpath for the actual CNC. Full gouge checking and clearance detention can accomplished for the tool, tool shank, tool holder, and CNC milling head assembly. A comparison against the original 3D CAD model can also be analyzed. This process reduces setup, testing and material cost on the first piece.

Translation

FMI can translate a variety of design file formats into our CAM system to generate the solid model. Native file formats from Unigraphics, SolidWorks, SolidEdge, Pro-Engineer, CATIA, AutoCad, CADKEY, and several other CAD packages supporting IGES, ACAD, SAT, DXF, DWG. Etc. Contact FMI for more information.

Either prints or actual parts

Utilizing prints, files or actual parts, Falciani Machine Inc. can work with your data to reverse engineer a part. FMI can utilize our Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) to digitize surfaces of a part and generate a 3-D model. This 3-D model is then transferred into CAM software to generate a CNC program. The accuracy of data collection is within .0001 of an inch. The 3D models can also be exported into stereo lithography files (.stl) for rapid prototyping.

Expert Programmers

FMI has a total of over 75 years combined experience in programming and machining. Coupled with CAD/CAM systems we can take your digital file and generate code or develop 3-D models from your prints. Working with solid models provides assurances for fit, form and function of component assemblies.
